25th anniversary as an Eparchy (1995-2020)

The Catholic Eparchy of Keren is celebrating its 25th anniversary as an Eparchy (1995-2020). History indicates until the 17th century, Bogos Christians, were struggling with their Christianity, due to repeated raids and lack of evangelizers. They were left to themselves and fallen to Islamic proselytism in the years of 1817-1837. As time passed and their connection with the Christian centers, halted, they ceased to have pastors for about 150-200 years, as a result their Christian heritage became weakened. With the arrival of Vincentian Missionaries such as Fr. Stella, Fr. Giuseppe Sapetto, and St. Gustino De Jacobis (1839-1860) revival of Catholicism took place. read more

A call To Peace by Eritrean Bishops

As spiritual leaders and shepherds of the people of God and fellow citizens, we express our deep and sadness by the recently ignited fraternal war in our neighboring country of Ethiopia. War is anti-life and anti-development. On the contrary it kills, maims, destroys, displaces and sows lasting grievances and hatred among people. The consequence of war is actually a self-evident truth to the whole world, and especially to the peoples in the Horn of Africa. Sadly, conflicts have persisted unabated. Once a war starts, no one knows when and where it ends. And in war all the parties are losers and there is now winner. That is why the late Pope, St. John Paul II stated that war does not have any meaningful value, and is always unjust. In other words, war destroys the four pillars of peace-Truth, Justice, Love and Freedom/Liberty: read more

After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead. So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene. read more
